Announcing Germany for Beginners: The German Way Expat Guidebook

I’m pleased to share with you the completion of a project that has been in the works for years. We had a number of starts and stops: a co-editor dropped out, I moved twice, a parent got ill, we squabbled, but Hyde and I along with our fellow bloggers made it to the finish line.  Germany for Beginners: The German Way Expat Guidebook has been published by Humboldt American Press and is now available as a paperback or ebook. I co-edited this volume having culled and edited hundreds of German Way posts written and published between 2009 and 2015. This was my second editing project. The fact that it wasn’t the first was an advantage but we nevertheless learned a lot along the way and I’m pleased to say that we’ve produced a helpful and accessible book on living the German Way.

While the main target group has been expats living in German-speaking Europe, a friend commented that it is also helpful for spouses of Germans to understand cultural peculiarities like German aversions to drafts. (By the way, this isn’t exclusive to Germany but it is in any case peculiar to Americans and the British.)

Pick up a copy and grab a cup of tea. You’ll share the expat experience with my co-authors and me and gain a glimpse of what it is like living in Germany or living like a German.  Please let me know  what you think and leave a review!
